Immigration Commissioner Marcelino Libanan Tuesday ordered his men to conduct deportation proceedings against a 65-year-old Japanese who allegedly punched the daughter of Cebu Gov. Gwen Garcia at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (
NAIA).
In a statement, Libanan said he directed the bureau's law and investigation division to do a summary deportation hearing against Isao Tanaka, alias Dick Tanaka, for being an undesirable alien.
NAIA officials nabbed Tanaka and brought him to Libanan’s office Monday afternoon after allegedly punching lawyer Ma. Esperanza Christina Garcia-Codilla.
In her complaint, Codilla, a Makati City-based lawyer, said the incident happened around noon at the NAIA Centennial Terminal arrival area after she arrived on board Philippine Airlines flight PR 848.
She alleged that Tanaka punched her in the back after the Japanese complained that she had placed her pushcart in front of the carousel.
When she asked why he did it to her, Tanaka allegedly said, "Then you can just punch me back."
At this point, Codilla called the attention of the airport police who, in turn, sought the help of the NAIA immigration officials who arrested Tanaka.
The Japanese is now detained at the BI jail in Bicutan, Taguig City while waiting for the results of the deportation proceedings.
