‘This one is very different’: Super Typhoon Mangkhut threatens Hong Kong, Philippines and Taiwan
In short: Not Bad weather but Bed Weather Wochenende.
ZitatSuper Typhoon Mangkhut now over the western North Pacific will enter the South China Sea this Saturday and move quickly towards the coast of Guangdong. As Mangkhut has a large circulation with intense winds, it will pose considerable threat to the coast of Guangdong. Although there are still uncertainties in its track, Mangkhut is expected to bring adverse weather to Hong Kong on Sunday with frequent squalls and heavy rain according to the present forecast track. Seas will be very rough with swells. Together with the storm surge, low-lying areas may have flooding or backflow of seawater.
The Observatory advises members of the public to be fully prepared and to complete all precautionary measures in the next few days. If you have activities later on Saturday and on Sunday, please note that the severe weather may affect your plan. Make appropriate contingency arrangements as soon as possible. Please continue to stay tuned to the latest information on Mangkhut issued by the Observatory.

ZitatAlles anzeigen..Mangkhut weakens slightly but remains a powerful and extremely dangerous typhoon...
...Refer to PAGASA for Luzon and Visayas storm signal information...
1200 UTC position [JMA]: 14.9°N 128.9°E (820 km ESE of Santa Ana, Cagayan)
Movement: WNW at 12 knots (21 km/h)
Intensity [JTWC]: 145 knots (270 km/h) 1-min
Intensity [JMA]: 110 knots (205 km/h) 10-min
Central pressure: 905 hPa
PAGASA name: Ompong
- Storm Signal #1 is in effect for much of Luzon, as well as Northern Samar in the Visayas. For more detailed information, refer to PAGASA. Note that impacts will likely be more substantial than listed in PAGASA's warning; see below.
#Mangkhut (#26W, #OmpongPH) has weakened a little due to an eyewall replacement cycle but remains an extremely dangerous Category 5-equivalent super typhoon in the central Philippine Sea. The overall structure of the typhoon remains quite impressive, owing to the very favorable environment it's currently located in. The remnants of the inner eyewall are still visible on infrared satellite imagery, but the outer eyewall is quite robust and very well defined on microwave imagery. The outer eyewall is also fairly large. CIMSS ADT and SATCON estimates dipped slightly but have rebounded and continue to support a high intensity, and outflow remains excellent in all quadrants.
Mangkhut has taken some time to do so but it has finally begun to turn toward the west-northwest. Although JMA's latest bulletin still indicates a westward motion, animated satellite loops show the cyclone is now clearly moving north of due west. Unfortunately, though, because it took longer than anticipated for the turn to happen, JMA and JTWC have had to adjust their forecast tracks to the south, and Mangkhut is now expected to make landfall in southern Cagayan near the border with Isabela within the next 36 hours. While fluctuations in intensity are likely due to inner core dynamics, little overall change in strength is anticipated prior to landfall, and Mangkhut is likely to be near or at Category 5-equivalent intensity as it moves ashore. Weakening is likely afterward as the cyclone moves across Luzon and into the South China Sea by Sunday.
Now, an important note: Preparations to protect life and property in much of northern Luzon (specifically Cagayan, Isabela, the entirety of the CAR, Ilocos Norte, and Ilocos Sur) should be completed as soon as possible. Although many of these areas are under Storm Signal #1, this is *NOT* an adequate warning for the conditions that are imminent for this region. Impacts will be much more substantial than listed in the warning (which specifically states that only 30-60 km/h winds are likely during the next 36 hours), and significant wind damage and storm surge flooding is likely. Heavy rainfall will likely cause widespread flooding inland. For other areas within the Storm Signal #1 area, typhoon conditions are not expected, but tropical storm conditions are likely across the rest of Luzon as well as parts of northern Samar, namely heavy rain and strong, gusty winds.
