Duterte to criminals: The clock is ticking away the hours from you

DAVAO City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte on Sunday declared all-out-war against criminals in the city, giving them little option as he pushed them away–to leave or to stop.
As he was sworn to office for the seventh time as mayor–underscoring that his government is for the least, the last and the lost–Duterte came out strong as he warned criminals, even children troublemakers, of the repercussions if they would choose to stay.
“I have said it before and I will say it again–criminals have no place in the city except in jails, detention centers and god forbid, in our funeral parlors should these criminals fight it out with our authorities,” he said.
“To drug pushers, drug dealers, drug suppliers and perpetrators of heinous crimes, I say again, say stop or leave. If you cannot or will not, otherwise you will regret it. Worse still, you may not survive your grief,” he added.
He said there will be no let up in “our fight against all forms of criminality” and as a “matter of policy, we will intensify our efforts in this campaign.”
“The clock is ticking away the hours from you. You can leave either vertically or horizontally. It is up to you. If you fight, the day ends permanently for you,” Duterte said.
He, too, has a message for children who are in conflict with the law.
“To the children who have made bloody fights and bloody riots nightly occurrences, do not waste away your lives,” he said.
He said erring children cannot for long find refuge from the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act of 2006 because it is undergoing amendment now.
“Do not wait for that to happen. Mend your ways now. It will be for your own, and your family’s good,” he said.
In 2009, the Commission on Human Rights conducted a probe on the spate of killings in Davao City, while Duterte was the mayor. It particularly looked into the alleged operations of a vigilante group Davao Death Squad or DDS. The results of the CHR probe was never made public. |
